The Conference which was held at the Conference Hall of the Commonwealth Institute of Accountants, 5 Bligh Street, Sydney, was opened by Major. The Hon. A. D. Reid, MLA., Minister for Agriculture, on Monday the 27th March, 1939.
The Minister said that he appreciated the opportunity of meeting and addressing the members of the Institute, and he advised them to use common sense in the administration of the Pastures Protection Act, and by so doing they would meet the stockowner on a better footing.
He explained to members that the system of appointing only qualified veterinary surgeons as stock inspectors had been introduced gradually, and he drew attention to the fact that there were many stock inspectors who did not have these qualifications. He also stated that the Department fully appreciated the valuable service rendered by these men.
A vote of thanks to the Major. The Hon. A. D. Reid, MLA., Minister for Agriculture, concluded the Opening Ceremony.
