After six years experience in one of the chief Anthrax Districts of this State the following are submitted as essential features which should be borne in mind at all times, and which may be of particular value to any Inspector facing a similar experience:—
1. It should be compulsory for all stock to be inoculated against this disease before being grazed on land regarded as a "hot-bed."
2. Inoculation should be carried out not later than August of each year.
3. Crows, foxes and flies frequently transmit Anthrax organisms over considerable distances
4. owing to the risk of fire, Anthrax carcases cannot be burnt forthwith they should be covered with a liberal quantity of sump oil and kerosene, together with, if possible, a dray load of wood in preparation for later burning.
5. When collecting blood smears from pigs suspected of dying from Anthrax, it is very necessary to cut deeply into the pharyngeal region.
And Finally—
Posters in colour showing typical lesions of Anthrax in humans, with suitable advice re treatment, should be displayed by the Health Department at all railway stations and post offices in localities in which Anthrax has been reported.
